The much of the history of the University has been lost due to deterioration ofthe archival material. What is know is that it was formed by the scientific community of Greendock shortly after The Fall. It is believed that when communication with the Empire was lost the researchers scattered throughout the system returned to the space tether loading facility, the site of the current University.
The goal of the University was to preserve as much knowledge as possible and to help Greendock through the times ahead. The Teachers were the first stage of this. Whilst the exact details of the early program are unknown much can be inferred from later texts. The Teachers were, and in many ways still are, wandering scholars imparting knowledge, and more importantly the skills required to acquire knowledge, to all who request it. The untouchable status of the Teachers has maintained ruthlessly and impartially. Anyone who attempted to stop a Teacher in their mission would be punished, either by the Teacher in question or by a retributive force from the University. The exact details of this retribution are hard to pin down, it is known that the martial skills and technological advantages of the Teachers usually sufficed but when it did not the University had back ups in place.
By ensuring the people of Greendock had access to education and by allowing access to those looking for more knowledge the University helped create the current New Empire.
