Armed police hunt big cat

Police armed with shotguns and rifles hunted a big cat believed to be on the loose in Hertford. Two officers spotted a "large, feline-type animal" on the prowl by the police station in Stanstead Road just before 7am on Saturday. It sparked a three-hour search involving 21 officers, including two firearms units, and the head keeper at Paradise Wildlife Park in Broxbourne, Colin Elcombe. Feline family steal ride on train

A cat and her four kittens have refused to move from their new home - a historic rail locomotive. RSPCA officials have been trying for three days to coax the feline family out of the Class 14 engine, which arrived in Barnsley on Tuesday. The feline, which has a purple collar, gets onto the busy Walsall to Wolverhampton bus at the same stop most mornings - he then jumps off at the next stop 400m down the road, near a fish and chip shop. Pet welfare act coming into force
